Who supports remote employees for a small business based in Dallas?
I do. Cross River Tech is a small, owner-led managed IT company in Dallas, and a large share of my day is already spent supporting people who are not sitting in an office. That model is not a workaround for remote work. It is the natural way to support a hybrid company. Most computer problems, application problems, email problems and account problems are solved remotely regardless of where the person is sitting. The office itself needs onsite attention for printers, network equipment and cabling, and I handle that by appointment across the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex.

Every one of these is solvable remotely if two things are true: I can reach the computer, and the computer is a company-managed device. That is why the next two sections matter more than any support promise.
How do I support someone who never comes to the office?
The employee gets my phone number and email, the same ones you have. When something breaks, they reach out. For most issues I send a remote-support session link, they click accept, and I see their screen. I explain what I am doing as I go, because a person who understands the fix is less likely to need it again.
For managed clients, the laptops already run my remote management agent. That means I can see update status, disk health, antivirus state and pending reboots before anyone calls, and I can push a fix in the background while the person keeps working. Small maintenance happens on a schedule you approve, usually outside working hours, and I make sure updates do not land in the middle of someone's presentation.
When a problem truly needs hands on the hardware, I have three options. If the person is in the Dallas–Fort Worth area, I schedule an onsite visit or meet them at your office. Company laptops or personal computers: which should a hybrid team use?
This is the decision that shapes everything else. A company-owned laptop that I manage is something I can protect, update, back up and wipe if it is lost. A personal computer is something I can only advise about. Both can work, but they are not the same job, and the honest comparison looks like this.

My recommendation for almost every Dallas small business is a business-class laptop for each person who handles company data, even if they also have a desktop at home. What security baseline does a remote team need?
Working from home does not need enterprise security theater. It needs a short list done properly, and then left alone. Here is the baseline I set up for hybrid clients, in the order I do it.
- One identity in the cloud. Every person signs in with a Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace account that I administer. When someone leaves, that one account is disabled and everything they had access to is closed at once.
- Multi-factor authentication on every account. A password alone is not enough when the sign-in happens from a coffee shop. MFA (a code or prompt on the person's phone) is the single most effective control for a small business, and it is included in the licenses you already pay for.
- Endpoint protection I can see. Antivirus that reports back to a console, so I know a laptop in Denton has a problem before its owner does.
- Drive encryption. BitLocker on Windows business laptops, so a stolen machine is a hardware loss and not a data breach.
- Email security. Filtering for phishing and spoofed senders, plus a rule that money and password changes are confirmed by phone, not by email.
- Cloud files, not local files. OneDrive, SharePoint or Google Drive as the only place work lives, so a dead laptop costs an afternoon, not a month of documents.
- A backup that is separate from the office. Microsoft and Google keep your data available; they do not promise to restore what an employee deleted six weeks ago. A separate backup of mailboxes and files closes that gap.

It does make you a much harder target than the business down the hall, and it helps you meet the requirements your cyber-insurance carrier and your larger clients are starting to ask about.
How should onboarding and offboarding work for remote hires?
Remote teams leak data at the edges: the day someone starts and the day someone leaves. In an office, a manager collects the badge and the laptop on the way out. At home, the laptop sits in a closet for months with company email still syncing. The fix is a written checklist that you and I agree on once and then follow every time.
Onboarding, before day one. You tell me the person's name, role, start date and what they need access to. I create the account, set up MFA, assign licenses, add them to the right groups and shared drives, and prepare a laptop with the applications already installed and signed in. The laptop is shipped or handed over so that on the first morning the person opens it, signs in, and works. I schedule a short call with the new hire to walk through email, files, the phone system and how to reach me.
Offboarding, the same day. You message me the moment you know. I disable the sign-in, revoke active sessions so an open laptop stops working, forward the mailbox to a manager, transfer OneDrive or Drive files to a colleague, remove the phone number from the softphone, and either wipe the laptop remotely or wait for it to come back and reimage it for the next person. If the device is not returned, the encryption and remote wipe from the previous section are what protect you.
Both lists live in a shared document you can see. When your bookkeeper or office manager needs to know who has what, the answer is written down, not in somebody's memory. I set all of this up as part of Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace support, because the accounts are where onboarding and offboarding actually happen.
What about home Wi-Fi, VPNs and the office network?
Home networks are the part of hybrid IT I control the least, so I aim to need them the least. When your applications and files live in the cloud, a remote employee needs a working internet connection and nothing more. A VPN back to the office becomes necessary only when something still lives on an office server: an old line-of-business application, a shared drive that has not moved, or a practice-management system that must stay onsite.
If you still need that, I set up the office firewall with a proper VPN, configure the client on each managed laptop, and test it from outside the building. I also make sure the office side is solid: a business-grade firewall, switches and access points I manage, and an internet plan with enough upload speed for people connecting in. Many Dallas offices on cable internet have fast download and slow upload, and it is the upload that remote staff feel.
For the home side, I give employees a short set of instructions: plug in with a cable where possible, put the router somewhere sensible, and call me when the connection drops rather than living with it. I can look at a home router over a remote session and often fix the setting that is causing the trouble. What I will not do is pretend to manage a router the employee's ISP owns. When the home connection is the problem, I say so, and the fix is a call to the ISP or a mobile hotspot for the day.

How is hybrid IT support priced, and what makes it worth it?
For a hybrid team I recommend per-user pricing rather than per-device pricing. One salesperson with a company laptop, a phone with email on it and a desktop at home is still one user who calls me, and per-user pricing keeps the bill predictable when devices multiply. I quote managed IT per user or per device after a short conversation about your setup, month-to-month, cancel anytime. As a reference point only, small business managed IT in the Dallas market is commonly quoted somewhere around $100 to $175 per user per month; that is a typical market range, not my price list.
Included in the monthly fee is unlimited remote support for everyone, wherever they are, plus updates, antivirus and email security, managed backup, and onsite visits at no extra charge when remote cannot solve it. If you would rather not commit to anything, hourly break/fix support is available at $100 per hour remote and $150 per hour onsite during business hours, with a one-hour minimum.
What you get in return is a point of contact who knows the whole picture, and that contact is me.
